Center for International Communications Studies (CICS)

Research at the CICS covers press reform and international media studies. The CICS has created an international network of corporate studies covering main issues of media diplomacy, international public relations, international images of China and political communications. Staff at the CICS plays an advisory role in government and non-government media policy-making.

Center for Film and Television Studies (CFTS)

Focused in film and television studies, audio-visual art and industry, the CFTS is one of the national centers in the field that has successfully developed close ties with the media institutions and government departments, and also integrated information science, literature, managerial science and audio-visual related subjects for a basis of comprehensive television and film studies. Current main area of research includes film and television industry in globalization, digitalization of film and television.

National Research Center for Cultural Industries (CCIS)

Established in 2004,National Research Center of Cultural Industries in Tsinghua University (RCCI) was founded in May 2004 under the leadership of the central government to strengthen academic research of cultural Industries and facilitate the developments of China's cultural Industries. The center was jointly founded by seven schools of Tsinghua University, including School of Journalism and Communication, School of Economics and Management, School of Public Policy & Management, School of Law, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Art and School of Information and Science under the approval of the committee of Tsinghua University.

The center has a strong research team with leading scholars around the country. Its mission is to contribute to the developments of China's cultural Industries by studying the patterns of China's economic and social changes and examining the experiences of other countries.

Tsinghua-Epstein Center for Global Media and Communication (CGMC)

Launched in October, 2008, Tsinghua-Epstein Center for Global Media and Communication (CGMC) adopts an interdisciplinary approach to the emergent opportunities and challenges for China’s “charm campaign” to increase her soft power, and is purported to act as the think tank and talent pool for the nation’s enterprise of international communication (i.e., wai xuan), as well as a dialogic platform for the politicians, entrepreneurs, academicians and media professionals between China and the rest of the world.

CGMC houses a MA program in international journalism and communication and an all-English-taught MA program in global business journalism, training future journalists and communication specialists for Chinese media’s “going global” campaign and the nation branding projects related to government, business, cultural and educational exchanges.

In cooperation with the State Council Information Office, China’s topmost authority for international communication, China’s International Publishing Group, and media outlets like Xinhua News Agency, China Daily and CCTV, CGMC conducts research programs, holds forums and provides training for journalists, communication professionals, publicity officials,spokespersons across China and globe.

Center for New Media Communication Studies (CNMS)

With a comprehensive and interdisciplinary framework, the CNMS is a national center in the fields of new media studies especially the changes of media form. The CNMS has established achievements in on-line communication, digital media and interactive art, and particularly the application of information communication technology in education. Research projects are concerned about the changes of media form and its influence on the social structure. The mission of the CNMS is to participate an international dialogue of related area and to provide impartial and professional advice to the government and other policy sectors.

Center for Media Economics and Management Studies

With advantages of academic strength in economics, sociology, management and public policy studies at Tsinghua, the CMOM is to focus on research on media operation and management in the time of new challenges and opportunities presented by China's entry to the WTO. Current staff research interests include media market pattern and trend studies, competition strategies of Chinese media, policy and regulation issues of the development of media. The CMOM has its long-term goal to be the national leading center of media development studies providing advanced and strategically consultancy.
