The Doctoral Program in Communication and Global Development at the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University is an internationally oriented doctoral program designed to promote the restructuring of the global communication landscape, comprehensively enhance the effectiveness of international communication, and contribute to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Integrating journalism and communication research with global development practice, this all-English doctoral program seeks to cultivate globally minded, innovative, and theoretically grounded scholars who are prepared to lead in the field of communication and global development. Toward this goal, the program focuses on training scholars equipped with advanced analytical skills, interdisciplinary research approaches, and global perspectives. Graduates will be prepared to generate new knowledge in communication and development, foster cross-cultural dialogue, and actively participate in international training and networking initiatives, contributing meaningfully to the advancement of global development goals.

Eligibility Criteria
The doctoral program is open exclusively to international students. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport.
Applicants should be of good character and in good physical and mental health (meeting the physical examination requirements set by the Chinese government and Tsinghua University), and be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as Tsinghua's rules.
Applicants should hold a master's degree, or a degree equivalent to a Chinese master's degree, which can be verified by the Chinese Education Ministry.
Applicants must provide an IELTS score of 7 or above, or a TOEFL score of 103 or above.

* The winter break at THU will be from Jan. 22, 2026 to Feb. 23, 2026. The application system will still be available during the winter break, but online verification might be delayed due to the vacation. Applicants wishing to apply for a full Chinese Government Scholarship are advised to submit their application in the first round.
Tuition Fees
RMB 60,000 per student per year, for a standard duration of 4 years.
