Tsinghua’s School of Journalism and Communication celebrates 20th Anniversary

On April 16, Tsinghua’s School of Journalism and Communication (TSJC) held its 20th anniversary celebration in the Auditorium on campus.

Liu Binjie, Chairman of the 12th Committee of Education, Science, Culture and Health of the NPC, Wang Xiqin, President of Tsinghua University, Du Zhanyuan, Director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Liu Zhengrong, Executive vice president of All-China Journalism Association and representatives from journalism academia and industry attended the ceremony. Party Secretary of TSJC Hu Yu presided over the ceremony.

President Wang Xiqin pointed out the original intention of the founding of TSJC. To seize the opportunities and overcome the challenges brought by economic globalization and information technology development, TSJC aimed to cultivate high-quality and interdisciplinary talents with a global vision for national communication. In the past 20 years, TSJC has acquired fruitful achievements in talent cultivation, academy development, and international collaboration. By cultivating more talents and constructing the subject of journalism with Chinese Characteristics, the school should commit to providing more robust support for telling China’s stories to the world and making China’s voice heard by the world.

Representatives of the journalism industry delivered speeches speaking highly of the development of TSJC. Executive Dean of the school Chen Changfeng summarized the 20 years of development experience and pointed out two paths of TSJC.

Professors of domestic and international universities expressed their congratulations to TSJC, including Fang Hanqi, Emeritus President of the Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication, Nico Carpentier, Chairman of IAMCR, Jantima Kheokao, President of ANPOR, and Willow Bay, Dean of Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism of the University of Southern California.

Alumni, teachers, and students recalled their memories in TSJC. International students recorded a video for the school’s 20th Anniversary Celebration.
