The Chinese Economy and Capital Markets at a Historical Turning Point

( By Xu Wenqing )Wang Donglin, editorial director of China Securities Journal, spoke to TSJC students on Oct.31 on "The Chinese Economy and Capital Markets at a Historical Turning Point". She focused on new trends and the future of the economy in coming decades.

She discussed the four stages of the economic cycle -- boom, recession, depression and recovery -- and said China is now in the second stage. But she was not pessimistic. she talked about the new opportunities for China and how they would influence the capital markets. In her opinion, most of the challenge comes from future reforms in various fields, especially the economy

After her speech, students raised questions and engaged in a lengthy discussion. The main topics included exchange rate of RMB and the US dollar, the US political election and future US-China relations. A student called Zhang Weijie from GBJ program said, “Next chance, I hope to have plenty of time to talk with her.”
