From February 1-10, 2012, Ling Yun, the School's Undergraduate Officer, led teachers and students, a total of five people, to Taiwan to participate in the 14th Cross-Strait Students News Camp. It was co-sponsored by Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC and All China Journalists' Association. The number of participants in this event was 65 teachers and students from eight mainland universities and 13 Taiwanese colleges and universities.
During the event, teachers and students visited Taiwan's well-known media, such as the television station TVBS and United Daily News, to understand the process of news gathering and production. The participants engaged in discussions with Taiwan journalists, familiarized themselves with Taiwan's media environment and deeply interacted with Taiwanese teachers and students in many activities such as interview preparation and news reporting. This proved to be a great way for teachers and students from the two-straits to forge friendship. In addition, teachers and students visited Taipei, Kaohsiung, Chiayi and Taichung to get a taste of Taiwan's culture and customs.
Since 2004, Cross-strait Students News Camp has organized many events each being held once in mainland China and Taiwan. It not only achieved good results in enhancing understanding and respect among students from both sides but also laid the basis for exchange. It has been identified as the focal point in activities relating to news exchange by Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC .
