The high-end forum: The Theories and Practices of &#34Media ethics and Rule-of-law&#34successfully held

The high-end forum: The Theories and Practices of ‘Media ethics and Rule-of-law’ lasting for 6 days successfully ended at Tsinghua university on August 28th. The forum was hosted by Chinese Association of Global Communication, co-organized by UNESCO and the Media Policy and Law Study Center of Oxford University, and conducted by the Journalism Study Center and the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University. More than 10 experts from Europe, America, Asia and some other regions attended the forum. The world renowned professors in media ethics including Clifford G. Christians (USA), Karen Sanders (UK) etc. gave speeches and joined discussions. Over 30 professors and students in the domestic universities and 80 media professionals participated.

The high-end forum: The Theories and Practices of ‘Media ethics and Rule-of-law ’aimed to strengthen the establishment of ‘Media ethics and Rule-of-Law’ curriculum in Chinese universities, improving the research and teaching level while promoting journalists’ professional ethic level and practical capability and enhancing standardized operations in Chinese media practices. The forum provided great platform for participants from international and domestic academies, and industries. International and domestic experts and participants not only acknowledged the success and significance of the event, but also expressed the hope to have more days or more opportunities for such forum. And they highly appraised the contribution Tsinghua has made for the academy and industry by this forum.

The forum was fully supported by the leadership, teachers and students in Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication. The UNESCO, the Media Policy and Law Study Center of Oxford University and American China-US funds have provided selfless help. Thanks to the experts from around the world who gave splendid speeches on the forum evoking lively discussion among participants, including the national renowned experts like Chen Lidan, Xu Xun etc., Mogens Schmid the assistant of vice-general manager in the communication and information department UNESCO, Mark Stephens and Siobhain Butterworth from UK, Tarmu Tammerk from Estonia and Song Xiaogang from Hong Kong South China Morning Post.
