Professor Richard Cole, Dean of the University of North Carolina’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, visited Tsinghua University on May 14. He met with Professor Li Xiguang, executive dean of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication, and Professor Jin Jianbin. They exchanged ideas and agreed to launch joint programs.
After an introduction about the history and basics of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication, Dean Li emphasized characteristic courses and academic activities of the School, including MA Global Business Program, “Re-explore the Silk Road” activity, etc.
Dean Cole was quite interested, and he proposed that the two Journalism Schools should launch joint programs, such as short-term courses, summer programs, and seminars.
He also suggested that Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication receive the evaluation of ACEJMC (The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications).
Dean Cole has led a strong faculty in moving the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina into national rankings in the top five – and frequently the top one, two or three – journalism-mass communication programs in the country. He has also led the School to increasing international prestige through programs in Eastern Europe, Russia, Mexico, Cuba and Africa.
