Thursday 11, Professor Li Xiguang, the executive dean of the school of journalism and communication has urged the global business class of 2008 to work hard and achieve excellence in their studies.
“I want to motivate you to work hard and be the best in the world, our school of journalism aims to be number one, not only in China but in the entire world”, Professor Li Xiguang said Thursday, in a speech to the students during a welcome ceremony hosted by the school.
Drawing on Tsinghua University’s record of success over the years, Li Xiguang pointed out that the students needed to take pride in the university great tradition of producing leaders in politics science, humanities and engineering.
Tsinghua is a top notch University which has provided a conducive environment for learning to both local and international students since it was founded in 1911. Li Xiguang urged the students to take advantage of the world class facilities provided by the university.
“Many leaders of our country have come out of this University, I hope you will follow their footsteps and become successful in your studies and financial journalism carrers,” he said.
Li Xiguang also explained his vision of the global business programme to the new students. “This class is like a united nation of scholars” Li Xiguang remarked in reference to the composition of the class which has attracted international students from countries across the globe including America, Australia, Greece, Thailand, Brazil, China, Russia, South Korea, Israel, Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
“Our vision is to produce not only leaders in global business, economic and finance journalism who will have the intelligence to understand and unpack the unfolding global economy, but also think tanks in this specialized field of journalism”, he added.
