Seymour Topping, world-famous reporter and scholar and former managing editor of The New York Times, was installed on November 28 as the first Chairman of Tsinghua University’s School of Journalism and Communication’s International Advisory Board. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin attended the ceremony for the inauguration of the International Advisory Board and presented the appointment book to Professor Topping and other members of the Board. Mr. Topping was also Administrator of America’s prestigious Pulitzer Prize in journalism. He is currently San Paolo Professor Emeritus of International Journalism at Columbia University,

A total of fourteen leading figures and renowned scholars in news and media and international friends were invited to join the first International Advisory Board of Tsinghua’s School of Journalism and Communication. “The International Advisory Board will enable us to rise to the next level of excellence,” said President Gu.

The first Board meeting took the form of a round-table discussion on “The Future of Journalism Education in China” that afternoon, during which the Board members carried on discussions with the Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication’s faculty and students.
