Business Media & Global Economy Forum Held

The Business Media & Global Economy Forum was held in Tsinghua’s Main Building on November 29. Some leading figures, scholars in the field of business media and economics from China, America, Japan, Russia and Europe, and Tsinghua faculty and students in related fields all participated in the Forum.

The Forum focused on such topics as China and the World Economy, Media and Social Development, Business Media and Economic Development, and Media Ethics and Business Reporting.

Professor Seymour Topping, world-famous reporter, scholar and former Administrator of America’s prestigious Pulitzer Prize in journalism, Mr. Merle A. Hinrichs, Chairman and CEO of Global Sources, Ltd., Mr. Jason Wright, Senior Vice President of Merrill Lynch, Mr. James F. Hoge, Editor of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yassen N.Zassoursky, Dean of Moscow University’s Faculty of Journalism and Professor of Journalism and Literature, Mr. Miles Young, Chairman of Ogilvy and Mather Asia/Pacific, Mr. Noboru Yoshioka, Managing Director of Nikkei at Digital Media, Inc., Mr. Gao Yunfei, Vice President of Shanghai Media Group, Mr. Du Yuejin, Deputy Editor in Chief of the China Security Journal, Mr. Shao Yingbo, Editor-in-Chief of the China Business Post, and Mr. Yan Wenbin, Director General of Xinhua World Service,Xinhua News all spoke at the Forum.

The South China Morning Post Scholarship and Internship Awards and the Global Sources Scholarship and Internship Awards were awarded to 25 excellent students at the Forum. Mr. Jason Wright also announced the decision to launch the Merrill Lynch Internship Awards at Tsinghua.

Tsinghua University launched the Global Business Journalism MA Program in 2007. The Program is taught completely in English and aims at bringing business journalism in China in line with international reporting standards.
