About Media Watch website

Co-sponsored by the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University and People's Daily online (www.people.com.cn) Media Watch?is the first professional website of media criticism in China.

Under the aegis of establishing a harmonious society in China and a harmonious world as well, media Watch?aims to promote the rationalization of the relationship between media and society and to construct discursive interface for professional media criticism on the basis of the realities of Chinese-speaking communities, particularly mainland China. Among our foci are media ecology, media praxis, media culture and media production in contemporary China. By dint of this website, we hope to expedite the consolidation of media ethics and legal regulation, on the one hand, and to enhance media literacy and rationalized media consumption among the general public in the present-day China, on the other.

Among others, media Watch?features an anti-rumor?channel, the first of its kind nationwide, which aims to mobilize Chinese netizens to boycott the internet rumors and to exterminate the abuse of media power. In addition, we shall be actively involved in the public campaigns and social activities related to media and society, as well as in research projects on media criticism and media planning.

Media Watch?is currently based in the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University, one of China's leading academic institutions in the sphere of journalism, media and communication studies, and co-sponsored by People's Daily online (www.people.com.cn), one of China's media powerhouses and the most circulated newspapers worldwide. During the phase of web construction, chhinese Environmental Resources?(www.ce65.com) offers us voluntary assistances in terms of web technology and online resources.

Our media partners include CCTV online (www.cctv.com), Media Today monthly, All-China Federation of the Cyber-Artists , Media China?online (www.mediachina.net), New Threads?online (www.xys.com), and Chhinese Environmental Resources?(www.ce65.com).

Our academic support is provided by, among others, Peking University, Renmin University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, the Communication University of China, Zhengzhou University, the Ocean University of China.

We have also established the web-links with overseas institutions based in Hong Kong, Taiwan and in such western nations as the US and the UK. In particular, Hong Kong Press Council and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) have authorized to us the dissemination of their informational and audio-visual resources.

Last but not the least, Media Watch?will shed a spotlight on the creative oeuvres of the students and junior scholars of journalism, media and communication studies, so as to lay a solid groundwork for the sustainable development of media criticism in China.

Our editor-in-chief is Dr. WANG Junchao, associate professor of journalism and media criticism with the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University. Our managing editors are Mr. ZHOU Yong and Dr. ZHOU Qing抋n, lecturers of journalism with the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University. Our advisory board is composed of renowned scholars of journalism, media, communication and cultural studies, law and psychology as well as veteran journalists and media professionals at home and abroad.

The English edition of this website is under construction. We henceforth welcome related websites around the globe to establish partnership and web-links with us.
