Biography

Changwen Chen (Ph.D. in Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University. He is a critical/cultural scholar interested in the social history of learning and work cultures and their intersections with technology, development, and post-socialist politics. His work has been published in journals including Journal of Cultural Economy, New Media & Society, Social Media + Society, and Critical Asian Studies. He also serves as Managing Editor of Inter-Asia Cultural Studies.

He welcomes inquiries from prospective master’s and doctoral students and is particularly interested in working with students on historical and contemporary research that brings China and countries in the Global South into dialogue through inter-referencing as a method of knowledge production, with the broader aim of decolonizing media and communication studies.
