Biography

Dr. HU Yu is a Professor, Doctoral Advisor and Head of the Academic Committee of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication. He also holds the position of Dean for Tsinghua University’s Institute for Cultural Creativity. He also serves as Honorary Chairman of the Professional Committee on Cultural Creativity of Tsinghua Alumni Association.

Dr. Hu has earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics(1996), Mater’s in Journalism(1998) and Ph .D. in Law(2003) from Tsinghua University. He was also a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California (USC) from 2008 to 2009.

Dr. Hu is one of the pioneers of thought-leading China. In recent years, he has been focusing on the improvement of humanity, encouraging cross-cultural communication and collaborations. Hoping to achieve his dream of world peace and youth exchange, Dr. Hu has brought his students to Africa, the Middle East, South America, South Asia, and many other countries to visit the local government, businesses, universities, media, non-governmental organizations, low-income communities, and also many international organizations. Most notably United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Dr. Hu directs numerous research projects and programs that are sponsored by China’s National Social Science Foundation, China’s National Arts Fund, major projects of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, the National Soft Science Research Program, and many others. Dr. Hu also has published over 100 articles in various papers and more than 10 books, including Research on Contemporary Chinese News Concepts, Theory of  Culture Innovation and Creativity of Chinese Culture,  the World of Human and Humaism. He also translates some classic works for example, The Man in the Mirror, William Marion Reedy and His Magazine.

Dr. Hu has won many academic awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award of Humanities and Social Sciences in higher Education institutions of the Ministry of Education, the Outstanding Achievement Award of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Beijing, the Achievement Award of Education and teaching in Beijing, and Selected for the National Philosophy and Social Science Achievements Library. In addition, he also won the annual Teaching Excellence Award of Tsinghua University.
