Professor Shi Speaks at Media Roundtables in London and Berlin

Shi Anbin, associate dean of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication, was a featured speaker at the first China-United Kingdom and China-Germany media roundtables on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3.

Professor Shi represented academia at the events co-sponsored by China’s State Council Information Office and the UK Trade and Investment Office and Propeller TV in London, and by the German Minister for Foreign Affairs in Berlin.

In his speech in London, Professor Shi discussed the topic “Chinese Globalization: Transformation Path of Chinese Media.” In Germany, he addressed the subject “The Disenchantment-of-Deutsch Myth: Analysis of images of Germany in Chinese Media.”

The roundtables included government officials from all three countries, media industry representatives and scholars. The participants discussed topics including media industrial development, coverage of important news, integrated development of news and traditional media, and communication and cooperation between the Chinese media and its international counterparts. The Chinese delegation also paid visit to British and German media outlets and academic institution.

In a speech during the opening ceremony, Jing Junhai, the vice minister of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China’s Publicity Department, predicted that the meetings would usher in a ”golden age of media cooperation.”
